What are veneers?
Veneers are thin pieces of plastic or porcelain used to change the color or shape of the teeth. Dr. Lane cements veneers over the front of the teeth to hide defects and/or improve the appearance of the patient’s smile.
When are veneers appropriate?
Veneers can be useful in a variety of circumstances. Dr. Lane often recommends veneers to patients whose teeth are chipped, discolored, crooked, or unevenly spaced. She may also use veneers to improve the appearance of teeth with uneven surfaces or odd shapes.
How much do veneers cost?
The cost of veneers varies based on the number of teeth treated, as well as other factors. Dr. Lane can provide a more accurate estimate after evaluating the patient’s teeth.
How does Dr. Lane attach veneers?
Before attaching a veneer, Dr. Lane begins by removing a small amount of enamel from the tooth to prepare it. She will then roughen the surface of the tooth to ensure a good bond with the veneer. Once the tooth is prepared, Dr. Lane will fit the veneer to the tooth, evaluate the quality of the fit, and make any necessary changes. Finally, she will cement the veneer into place.
How should patients care for veneers?
Veneers don’t require any special care. Patients should continue to brush and floss twice daily to keep their teeth clean. Patients should also avoid excessive use of substances that could stain the veneers, such as red wine. Veneers may chip or crack with excessive force or trauma.
How long do veneers last?
When the patient takes good care of their veneers, they may last for as long as 15 years. However, most patients will eventually need to replace their veneers. If a patient cracks or chips a veneer, repair isn’t usually possible. In such cases, early replacement of veneers is the best option.
Can veneers be removed?
The process of preparing a tooth to receive a veneer isn’t reversible. For this reason, patients should be sure that they want veneers before beginning treatment.
