Inlay and Onlay Home Care

You have just had your tooth/teeth prepared for an INLAY/ONLAY or VENEER restoration. If your tooth/teeth is/are root canal treated, you should have no sensitivity. Temporaries have been made your prepared teeth to keep down sensitivity (live teeth/no root canal), to protect them, to allow you to eat normally and to maintain the space left from reducing the size of your tooth/teeth.

  1. If you are able to do so, eat on the opposite side of your mouth while your permanent restoration is being made by our lab. Avoid sticky foods like chewing gum, caramel. Avoid icy colds and coffee hots on that side to reduce chances of sensitivity.

  2. An appointment will be made before you leave the office for you to come back for your crown or bridge. If you are unable to make that appointment please give us a call. TOO LONG A LAPSE OF TIME BEFORE INSERTION CAN CAUSE FITTING PROBLEMS. “YOU” WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ADDITIONAL LAB COSTS, OF, YOU DO NOT RETURN TO OUR OFFICE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME.

  3. If your temporary comes out, DO NOT PANIC! This is not an emergency. You should replace temporary in tooth with some pressure. If this doesn’t work, you may call the office to get another placed or you may use temporary filling material found in the toothpaste aisle.

  4. A chemical has been applied to your tooth to reduce the likelihood of sensitivity.

  5. If you have any questions call our office at 212-222-1181.

  6. The Dental Laboratory that services our office, uses advanced technology to survey some types (crowns, inlays, etc.) of our cases. If the lab determines that a new impression is needed or your tooth needs to be modified, you will be asked to return to the office ASAP in order for your case to get completed.

  7. The office does offer a level of guarantee toward major services which include inlays/onlays and veneers.

In order for the guarantee to apply, you must make all recall appointments and, follow through recommended treatment as necessary. The office will determine if failure of restoration was due to lab workmanship or patient home care (good oral hygiene, wearing night guards as warranted or injury during accident/assault). The office will attempt to repair a failure. If repairing the restoration does not meet the standard of care, the inlay/onlay or veneer will be replaced up to 2 years after the initial placement at no cost to you.
